No Space for Clothes, No Money for Food.

It’s only a few days till payday but I’ve still managed to blow my food/travel (money to survive) budget for the remainder of the week. Where does this need to buy clothes come from? Why do I forget about responsibility and purchase things I love but don’t need? If it is the week before payday I don’t check my bank balance and think I can live comfortably for the next week – I think what can I buy!?!
So although my wardrobe is currently overflowing and my shoe storage packs are full I decided that I needed these beauties from Urban Outfitters. Worth it? I think so, I need a bit of red in my life.
I know I am not alone on this. I think most of us harbour this overwhelmingly, irresponsible joy we get from purchasing things we shouldn’t. When I have money, nothing jumps out at me and I will rather sadly leave a shop empty handed. When I don’t have money I will find a dozen items I love, convince myself I need them, can’t live without them and tell myself “I will wear this, I’ll find an occasion.”
Secret shopping? Yes, I am guilty. It started when I lived with my dad. I would say things like; “it’s vintage, it only cost £5” while hiding the Urban Outfitters bag or “I’ve had this for years, it’s old.” Is my dad blind? No! This has now transcended onto my friends, who I know, know that I spend far too much money on clothes. Is it an addiction?
Anyway, I have decided it is time to get sensible and kick the habit! In the next month I am calming down. Don’t get me wrong, I am still going to buy clothes, but I am also going to wear the clothes I already own and see if I can ease myself out of this rut.
I know I sound like I have the major guilt here, but sadly I still want to go out and blow what little I have left in my bank. Start afresh with the next wage.

  1. This has been a nice bit of procrastination from writing my CV! I am exactly the same, i'm the poorest i've ever been and my high st wish lists are the biggest they've ever been! I would take out an overdraft/credit card but APPARENTLY i have bad credit. Pah x

  3. I do the exact same thing with my dad "Ooooh I've had that for ages", does 2 weeks count? Cause he's always out of the country he never believes me, I could have done all kinds of shopping while he was gone. My mum just asks me how much money I've got left in my account, I don't even know, it scares me or she shakes her head at me, she knows she wants to borrow the new pair of shoes...x

  5. I have done that at times and I totally feel your pain of buying clothes when you can't afford them! When I was about 16 and got ema I would spend it like that on a new item of clothing every week! Now I've got a job and I'm at uni I've clamed down slightly as half the time I don't have time to look in the shops haha! Your shoes are so lovely, I love the colour red!

  6. I used to be like this, all my spare cash would go on clothes wether i needed petrol or not! I managed to ony kick the habit by moving 20 miles away from the shops to the seaside...now i just end up spending money on crappy gift shop purchases! x

  7. Those red shoes are lovely, can't blame you! I used to resort to those sorts of tricks with my mum- she'd always says "is this new???" and I'd reply "what this old thing? nah.." But it's almost a compulsion to buy new clothes! x

  8. I'm proud of you for owning up to it. I might do a post on this! You inspired me :) what might help: keeping a list of what you actually buy, might be very confronting. Or forcing yourself to go through one of those 30 items for 30 days challenges, so you force yourself to see your wardrobe in a new way and rediscover some pieces. Good luck! mindless consumption is never a good thing.

  9. I'm the same. I get paid monthly...I live like a Queen for the 1st week and then like a pauper for the remaining three weeks....a well dressed pauper:)

  10. I'm exactly the same, I buy little things convincing myself that they're cheap and it soon mounts up, then I feel guilty and put myself on a 'spending ban' that never lasts more than a day or two... I don't know how I'm going to cope when I start uni in September x

  11. I love these - they are ADORABLE.
are they comfy?? I'm really struggling at the moment to find a pair of comfy shoes. I've got some loafers from River Island which rub me constantly :(
I need these red beauts in my life haha x

  15. I definitely know what you mean and it's great that you're realizing it. One thing that makes it a lot easier for me to resist is to just avoid shopping. In the end you can have such better conversations with friends over a cup of coffee than shopping, so I try to find other things instead (mainly cheap or free things like going to the park or riding my bike). Another thing that really helps me is saving up for trips and it's so exciting when the time comes. Just some ideas : )
